Written in December 2002, I was commenting on the seemingly unanimous wave of support for Bush's military and social endeavors. What shocked me was the impression that Bush could do no wrong. And I felt there was a sense of helplessness in many people's minds, as if we should just march along with his stubborn policies.

Thanks to George Demarest for the trumpet solo!

So I'm not the only one

to see through your skin-thin veil of lies

though sometimes I have to look around

maybe I should buy a gun

and drive round in my Hummer, yum, oh my!

I'd blend right in and not be found

shouldn't I conform

now that you're the norm

I'm not sure this quite holds true

why am I distressed

can't you sense this mess

we're not red or white, just blue

there's something coming out from you

though it may not be the whole view

I'm sure that your advisors would deny

but that's what they are paid to do

to follow like a maid and cry

whenever dirt gets in your eyes

shouldn't I conform

now that you're the norm

I'm not sure this quite holds true

why am I distressed

can't you sense this mess

we're not red or white, just blue

don't you love yourself

you drink from the top shelf

as you've taught your family to

now that you've begun

we're suck on the second rung

is there nothing we can do

shouldn't I conform

now that you're the norm

I'm not sure this quite holds true

why am I distressed

can't you sense this mess

we're not red or white, just blue
